Richmond's "sports scene" offers organizations for children and adults, from amateurs to pros. While Richmond International Raceway brings car racing fans, the Richmond Marathon, dubbed "America's Friendliest Marathon" by Runner's World magazine (and a qualifier for the Boston Marathon), attracts the "foot racers." In 2008 the University of Richmond Spiders football team won their first national championship, while in 2011 we got to cheer Virginia Commonwealth University Rams basketball to the NCAA Final Four. Soccer fans will enjoy watching the Richmond Kickers (official partner of MLS's D.C. United) and soccer moms will love the many opportunities for the kids to participate in area leagues.
