Richmond has received a lot of much-deserved attention lately for its craft brewing scene, but it's also a city that happens to be home to some of Virginia's finest distilleries. Here are some of the local distilleries creating new flavors in the Richmond area that you should check out in 2023.
- Trial & Error Distillery - 1606 W Main St, Richmond, VA 23220
Located in Richmond's Fan District, Trial & Error Distillery is known for creating some of the city's most unique and creative spirits. True to their name, the folks at Trial & Error make small-batch spirits with a sense of adventure and experimentation, and the results are never ordinary. They now offer 15 varieties of spirits and also serve tasty craft cocktails in their public tasting room, just minutes from many Richmond homes for sale.
- Cirrus Vodka - 1603 Ownby Ln, Richmond, VA 23220
As craft spirits go, vodka doesn't tend to get as much attention as, say, bourbon or scotch. But the folks at Cirrus Vodka are on track to change that. Their triple-distilled vodka is smooth, full-bodied, and eminently sippable. It also tastes great in a cocktail, and you can sample some great ones at Cirrus Vodka's tasting room. They share a space with Main Line Brewery, making this a great twofer of Richmond craft beverages!
- Reservoir Distillery - 1800 A Summit Ave, Richmond, VA 23230
When Reservoir Distillery was established in 2008, it was only the third distillery in America to make bourbon outside of Kentucky. They were ahead of the curve then and continue to be one of Virginia's finest distilleries to this day. Visit their newly renovated tasting room in the Scott's Addition Historic District to enjoy a cocktail or a neat pour of one of their award-winning bourbons, ryes, or wheat whiskeys, all of which are made from locally sourced ingredients.
- Virago Spirits - 1727 Rhoadmiller St, Richmond, VA 23220
With a focus on rums and gins, Virago Spirits is a unique Richmond distillery that melds traditional and time-honored methods with modern innovation. Their spirits are created slowly, using one of the few remaining vintage, direct-fire, 2,500-liter Charentais-style alembic stills in the United States, resulting in a uniquely rich and complex finished product. The distillery is open for public tours and includes a tasting room that serves cocktail flights.
- Belle Isle Moonshine - 615 Maury St, Richmond, VA 23224
Taking its name from the island that sits in the middle of the James River in Richmond, Belle Isle Moonshine is a local distillery that elevates moonshine far beyond its backwoods origins. Their flagship product is Belle Isle Black label, which is crystal clear, silky smooth, and a great addition to anyone's cocktail cart. Belle Isle also has a cozy Richmond tasting room adjacent to the distillery, where you can sample all of their unique moonshine varieties, which include flavors like blood orange, honey habanero, and ruby red grapefruit.
- Three Crosses Distilling Co. - 3835 Old Buckingham Rd, Powhatan, VA 23139
Three Crosses Distilling Company is known primarily for its Route 13 Moonshine and Three Crosses American Whiskey. Both spirits are made from locally grown corn and rye and can be sampled at the distillery's public tasting room with local beer, wine, and some very tasty bar bites. Three Crosses Distilling is located a short drive from Richmond and minutes from these Powhatan homes for sale.
