Richmond Easter for Families
Moving to Richmond this year? Springtime is a great time to live in Virginia's capital city, and you don't have to be a resident yet to find out why. While you're looking for Richmond homes for sale, get a feel for our city's attractions and traditions too. Easter is a family-friendly holiday that takes over our shops, gardens, and landmarks every year, and your family is welcome to join the fun for our 2019 celebrations.

Here are some of our favorite ways to celebrate Easter in Richmond, Virginia:

  • Family Easter at Maymont - 1700 Hampton Street, Richmond, Virginia 23220
Maymont Mansion, a lush, lavish Gilded Age estate now owned by the City of Richmond, is the perfect spot to kick off Easter weekend. Come to the 100-acre grounds for Family Easter at Maymont, a pre-Easter extravaganza that starts at 10 am on Saturday, April 20. Sponsored by Dominion Energy, this ticketed event fills the Victorian mansion's Carriage House Lawn with face painters, inflatable slides, life-size games, an obstacle course, and even craft stations to make your own baskets, bonnets, and plants.

  • Peek-a-Bloom with Peter Rabbit and Easter Brunch - 1800 Lakeside Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23228
The Easter bunny visits every city on Easter weekend, but where else can you meet Peter Rabbit himself? Peek-a-Bloom with Peter Rabbit is an annual delight that brings books and blooms together in one of Richmond's most beautiful attractions, the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Beatrix Potter's cutest creation will be in the Children's Garden on Saturday and Sunday, April 20 - 21 from 1 pm to 4 pm, ready to pose for photos and chat with Richmond's littlest revelers. Afterward, borrow a basket from the Story Tree (there's a book, blanket, and literary activity inside each one), or create festive garden hats at a colorful crafting station.

Of course, the kids don't get to have all the fun this year. Don't forget to come early on Sunday to enjoy a prix fixe Easter Brunch, a delicious tradition at the Garden's scenic Lora Robins Tea House. Reserve one of three seatings for a three-course Easter meal that overlooks the gorgeous Asian Valley garden outside. This year's menu includes springtime treats like curry deviled eggs, brisket with bourbon peach glaze, and coconut cheesecake garnished with jelly beans. Don't worry; the kids' menu sticks to fun, simple staples like French toast sticks and "dirt" pudding.

  • Easter on Parade - Monument Avenue (between Allen and Davis), Richmond, Virginia
If you want to treat the kids to a street full of festivities, you don't have to bring a chair or worry about getting a good view. At Richmond's annual Easter Parade, you are the parade, and your pets are invited to march too. On Easter Sunday, April 21 from 1 pm to 5 pm, downtown Richmond turns into a stationary spectacle of vendors, entertainers, costume contests, balloon artists, a petting zoo, and more. Up to 25,000 people will strut down the four-block route in their Sunday best, turning Monument Avenue into a parade of people and pets for Easter.
