EXPLORE RICHMOND BY BIKE

May is the perfect time to be a bicyclist and Richmond is the ideal place to ride! The League of American Bicyclists sponsors National Bike Month each year during May. The month also features National Bike to Work Week (and National Bike to Work Day for those who don't want to risk getting caught in a spring shower). Our REALTORS® love telling clients about all of the wonderful things to do and see in our community.  Why not start by exploring Richmond on two wheels with this list of six top bike trails.

  1. Virginia Capital Trail
Route: From the Corner of E Cary St./Dock St. in downtown Richmond to Jamestown Beach Events Park in Williamsburg
    Distance: 52 Miles

We're kicking off this list with the ultimate Richmond ride! The Virginia Capital Trail takes you through some of the most beautiful places along the river while weaving you in and out of towns with plenty of food and attractions. The entire trail is paved and features restrooms, shuttle stops, picnic areas and repair stations. It even takes you through campground areas and near hotels if you want to take a full weekend to enjoy the ride! You could also pick out one of the great Richmond homes for sale on the way and travel this trail any time you wish.

  2. North Bank Trail
    Route: Boulevard Bridge to Tredegar
    Distance: 3 Miles

Let's slow down our speed and tackle a much shorter trail. The North Bank Trail is only three miles long, but it offers riders a bit of a challenge with its rocky climbs and rugged descents. It's a quick drive from Hanover homes for sale and is perfect for a fun ride that'll give you a workout.

  3. Monument Avenue Historic District
    Route: Down Monument Avenue
    Distance: 5 Miles

Whether you're moving down into the city or you're looking at Petersburg homes for sale, all avid bikers in the RVA area need to travel this route at least once. Take a relaxing ride through Monument Avenue Historic District and marvel at the dazzling architecture and statues. This is also a perfect ride for the family to enjoy as it has plenty of areas to stop off for snacks and to rest little legs.

  4. Valentine Bicycle Tours
Route: Varies by the tour, areas include Forest Hill and along the James River.
Distance: Varies by the tour, lengths usually around 2 hours.

Looking for a great way to see the Richmond Riverside without going too far from Chesterfield homes for sale? Join the Valentine for historical bike tours around some of the most scenic parts of Richmond. Tours are offered weekly between April and October which is the perfect time to enjoy the RVA's beautiful biking weather.

  5. Bryan Park/Ginter Gardens
Route: From Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens to Joseph Bryan Park.
    Distance: 3.5 Miles+

Head over towards Henrico homes for sale to see a different side of Richmond. We suggest starting at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, heading south through Belmont Park then cutting into Joseph Bryan Park before stopping in Bellevue for a bite to eat. This route is a nice mix of street and scenic riding that will introduce you to a fantastic area of the city.

  6. Bucolic Battlefields
Route: Through Richmond National Battlefield Park from Rocketts Landing to Fort Harrison Visitor Center.
    Distance: 7-10 Miles

Colonial Heights homes for sale are within a quick trip to a route filled with history. The Bucolic Battlefields Route will take you away from the downtown Richmond to Fort Harrison National Cemetery. You can take a direct 7-mile route by following the Osborne Turnpike or extend it to 10 miles each way by weaving through Fulton Hill towards the airport then booking it south to the cemetery.
