
Celebrate National Anti-Boredom Month
Now that summer is here, are you dreading the first time you hear those inevitable words, "I'm bored?" In honor of National Anti-Boredom Month in July, our REALTORS® share this list of fun kids' activities in the Richmond area.
- Three Lakes Park & Nature Center - 400 Sausiluta Dr., Henrico 23227
With a wide variety of interactive exhibits featuring air, land, and water, Three Lakes Park & Nature Center is an ideal place for outdoor summer fun near Henrico homes for sale. The impressive 6,500-square-foot Nature Center has displays of plant and animal life native to the area along with a 50,000-gallon aquarium that lets you get an up-close look at the marine world. Pack a picnic lunch and fishing poles and make a day of it. Hours through August are 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. weekdays except Monday and noon - 4:30 p.m. weekends. General admission is free for all visitors.

Spend a morning with Shrek, Batman, Kung Fu Panda and other animated favorites at Regal Cinema's Summer Movie Express. A pair of family-friendly movies screen each Tuesday and Wednesday through September 4 and tickets are only $1 per person for all ages. Head to the mall afterward for lunch at Chick-fil-A or Firehouse Subs before an afternoon of viewing Colonial Heights homes for sale.
- Pamplin Historical Park - 6125 Boydton Plank Rd., Petersburg 23803
Pamplin Historical Park is only minutes from Petersburg homes for sale, but a visit transports you back in time more than 150 years to the Civil War era. The 424-acre campus on the site of a Civil War battleground includes so many engaging activities that your kids won't even realize they're learning some history. Tour a restored plantation, watch accurate portrayals of military life and walk the same trails used by Confederate troops. Don't miss the award-winning National Museum of the Civil War Soldier and its interactive exhibits. Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily through November. Admission is $15 for adults and $12 for kids from 6-12.
- The Monster at Fighting Creek - 2270 Mann Rd., Powhatan 23139
Add some challenge to the popular activity of Frisbee-tossing with a game or two at the Monster at Fighting Creek, Virginia's longest disc golf course. The 18-hole course runs two miles across varied terrain, with half of the holes measuring more than 400 feet. Fighting Creek Park, just down the road from Powhatan homes for sale, is also home to several athletic fields, walking trails, picnic sites and a large playground along with Powhatan Public Library. Park hours are 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily.

Magnificent Maymont, one of the most beloved attractions close to Richmond homes for sale, is so rich in activities it can easily provide several summer days' worth of entertainment. Animal lovers will go straight for the Nature Center or Maymont Farm, while others will enjoy a stroll through one of the many specialty gardens. The stunning 100-acre Victorian country estate that was once the home of local financier James Dooley offers a glimpse into life during the Gilded Age of the late 1880s. Maymont is open seven days a week except for the Nature Center and Mansion, which are closed Monday. Entrance to the grounds and gardens is free, while other exhibits charge a nominal fee of no more than $5.
