Living in Richmond

There are so many things to love about calling Richmond home. While it's hard to narrow such a rich and varied city down to just a few attractions, our REALTORS® wanted to share some of our favorite things about life in Richmond. If you're in town looking at Richmond homes for sale, you'll be sure to love these things about the area!

  1. An Amazing Food Scene
Richmond's food scene has something for everyone. From corner diners to high-end eateries, classic Southern food to global cuisine, craft brewers to small-batch coffee roasters, Richmond has a flavor for every palate. Whether you're in the mood for a great barbecue or tasty vegan treats, you'll find anything you hunger for here.
  2. Richmond's Wild Side
Few cities can offer a greater wealth of outdoor recreation than Richmond. More than 100 parks and trails in the metro area offer places to hike, bike and explore, while the James River cuts a path right through the heart of the city, offering everything from bass fishing to whitewater rafting. Our favorite spot of all is Oregon Hill, which offers sweeping views of the entire city.
  3. Art for Everyone
Richmond is home to an incredibly lively and diverse art scene, with tons of galleries, studios, art classes, and markets all over town. We're home to one of the best art museums in the country, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, which is open to the public free of charge 365 days a year. The monthly First Friday Art Walk transforms Broad Street into an art lover's paradise. Plus, Richmond's expansive mural project is bringing spectacular street art to areas throughout the city.
  4. Affordable Cost of Living
The overall cost of living in Richmond is lower than the national average, making it highly accessible for a city its size. Housing costs, in particular, are well below most similarly-sized American cities, making Richmond a great value as well as a fun and exciting place to call home.
  5. The Four Seasons
Richmond is located right in that sweet spot where you get the best climate for all four seasons. You can enjoy the hot summers of the South, the snowy winters of the North, along with abundant spring wildflowers and brilliant fall foliage. No matter what kind of weather you like, chances are Richmond has it.
  6. Small Town in a Big City
Richmond offers all the amenities and advantages of a major metropolitan area, plus the charm and hospitality of a small town. It's the kind of place where you're likely to run into someone you know while you're out running errands any given day, and where just about anyone you meet is probably already a friend-of-a-friend.
  7. Past, Present and Future
You'll find remnants from every chapter in American history in Richmond. But Richmond is also a city that looks to the future, with modern condos and townhouses side-by-side with colonial mansions, and new industries right across the street from businesses that have been in the same family for generations.
