Living in Richmond

There are so many things to love about calling Richmond home. While it's hard to narrow such a rich and varied city down to just a few attractions, our REALTORS® wanted to share some of our favorite things about life in Richmond. If you're in town looking at Richmond homes for sale, you'll be sure to love these things about the area!

  1. An Amazing Food Scene
Richmond's food scene has something for everyone. From corner diners to high-end eateries, classic Southern food to global cuisine, craft brewers to small-batch coffee roasters, Richmond has a flavor for every palate. Whether you're in the mood for a great barbecue or tasty vegan treats, you'll find anything you hunger for here.
  2. Richmond's Wild Side
Few cities can offer a greater wealth of outdoor recreation than Richmond. More than 100 parks and trails in the metro area offer places to hike, bike and explore, while the James River cuts a path right through the heart of the city, offering everything from bass fishing to whitewater rafting. Our favorite spot of all is Oregon Hill, which offers sweeping views of the entire city.

How to be a Good Neighbor

Neighbors can make a big difference in determining how happy you are in your community. Good neighbors can make your neighborhood feel supportive but bad neighbors can be a constant pain point.

One of the first steps toward having a good neighbor is to set the right tone by being a good neighbor yourself. The following tips from our REALTORS® will help you be an ideal neighbor in your neighborhood.

Be friendly.

Make it easy for your neighbors to approach you by smiling and waving at them and saying hello when you get a chance. It's also a nice gesture to make cookies and take them over if you see a new family has moved in.

As you get to know them a little better, offer to help by babysitting or providing other small favors.

Keep noise at a minimum.

Different neighborhoods have different tolerances for noise. If you're living in a community filled with retirees, they may appreciate more peace and quiet than a neighborhood with lots of young children.

National Hiking Day

Grab your favorite walking stick and lace up your most comfortable pair of walking shoes — National Take A Hike Day is November 17th! Join our REALTORS® on this beautiful Sunday afternoon for a hike along some of the best trails in the Richmond area. There's nothing like a day spent outdoors, especially when you're exploring the gorgeous greenspaces around Virginia. Here are six of our favorite trails to check out on National Take A Hike Day.

  • Pocahontas State Park — 10301 State Park Rd., Chesterfield, VA 23823
Pocahontas State Park has no shortage of trails for you to explore. More than 64 miles are yours to travel across in this sprawling state park. Although it may be a little too cold to swim in their pools, you can relax after your walk by fishing one of three lakes. If the skies get a little cloudy, feel free to visit the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum on site.

  • Forest Hill Park — 4021 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, VA 23225
Forest Hill Park is an excellent place for National Take A Hike Day or anytime you want some fresh air. Listed in the state's Historic Register, this space was once an estate and amusement park before becoming one of Richmond's best places for outdoor relaxation. Bring a pair of binoculars while you walk through the wetlands so you can get a closer look at the diverse wildlife that call that park home.
